What is Juneteenth

I shared three important facts about Juneteenth on my blog post chanteamcintyre.com. Please check it out if you want a full description of the history of the Juneteenth holiday.

Just for a quick review, Juneteenth is the day that 250,000 slaves learned they were free. This was 6 months after the Emancipation Proclamation came into effect. Juneteenth is a holiday people joyfully celebrate all over the United States of America and I hope you will join us.

Juneteenth at home

My family has been celebrating Juneteenth since 2016. Every year, as my children get older, the celebration gets a little more meaningful for me. Last year we celebrated with a backyard pool party.

At Home Juneteenth Decorations

Without a doubt, Juneteenth is an American Holiday. For me, it is a no brainer to use patriotic decorations. In the future, as I add to my decorations I will begin to insert some traditional African prints into the scheme. But for now, I am proud of this start. These photos below are from my Juneteenth celebration last year.

A note for my non-black visitors, We often say in the black culture, in response to someone telling us we HAVE to do something… That we only HAVE to do two things in life. 1. Stay Black.. And 2) Die. So the title of this event is pay on this well known black phrase. Just FYI
