Dear Working Mom

Dear Working Mom

(An honest peek into this working mom’s heart.)

First, it’s going to be okay! Second, it’s already okay! I know you look longingly at the soccer moms and the room moms and the PTA moms. I know sometimes you despise that same group of moms because they are irritating and detailed.

But also because there is a tiny part of us that is so curious to learn what their day looks like.

I mean do you really workout every day in your LuLu Lemon coordinating outfit? Are you really as relaxed and put together as I feel like you look?

Because I know for me, the concealer and mascara are often covering the tears as I drop my babies off to daycare. And as I watch my childcare provider lovingly steal the fleeting moments of my child’s first years.

I often wonder, is it worth it? Is it worth it to give my heart to my office while giving my leftovers to my family? It is worth it? Does my family deserve better? Or do they deserve better THINGS? Is my contribution to my family about things? Status? My own ambitions? Or could it really be just as much about putting food on our table? Can we really have it all, and what does that mean?

Oh I am rambling! And crying! Because the struggle is REAL! I do love the rush of making a deadline and contributing to society whether that’s a presentation to the boardroom or an incredible sale. But man! Most days I can go to work and come home… and numb out the mom guilt. But today! Today I will gaze right through my computer and imagine the day… that I wear LuLu (or heck, even Target) yoga pants to pick up my kids, because I finally put my time and energy toward my life’s greatest accomplishments – my kids!

I work from home, but I am not an entrepreneur I have a demanding job and I struggle so hard with the balance of working and being a mom. Oh and throw wife in there and sometimes I feel like a failure, so thanks for this.

After the 1st few sentences I was crying. Thank you for reminding us that everything is ok and that the feelings that I sometimes feel is shared by other #4 moms as well.
