You guys! It’s my one year anniversary in blogging! I know because I just paid my renewal fee. When I first signed up I only purchased one year of hosting because I wasn’t sure I was REALLY going to do it! Boy was that a good gamble.

I can’t believe how much creativity, self expression and INCOME I have received from my blog! Yes, I was able to monetize my blog my very first year of blogging. It started off slowly, and first I was just given FREE things in exchange for a blog post! Then, after only 6 months of blogging, I was able to get a full-fledged sponsored post!

I know that my blog was instrumental in acquiring several paid Instagram posts as well. Like this one and this one! The more channels for social media you have, the more exposure brands see for their products and the more likely they are to ask you to do a PAID post for them!

My one caveat is that my first ever experience with building a website was with my modeling agency almost 8 years ago. Back then I was brand new to this, and I know if I can do it so can you! Getting started is easy. I used iPage to build my very first website, they have a great drag and drop website building system for the beginner. Feel free to check that out here.

I just helped my husband launch his very first blog and he is doing incredible. Your blog can be as simple as his, or as fancy as mine. It has not been my experience that brands care how fancy your blog is – they just care that you have one!

Below is a step-by-step process for getting started. I have linked screenshots of how I got started in building my husband’s blog, which I did just a few months ago. I love Bluehost because their customer service is amazing and I can talk to a REAL person if I get stuck with tech stuff. I have also used Siteground, and iPage, but I keep going back to Bluehost because of their excellent customer service and ease of use.

Part of the advantage I have with so many years of experience of having my own website is that I have tried a gazillion web-hosting services and so far BlueHost is my absolute favorite. The technical support alone is worth the price in gold and you can purchase your blog for less than $4 a month! I am so glad I took a gamble on myself to create my first blog this time last year. If you are even thinking about it a little bit, I totally encourage you to take the leap.

Step 1 – Go to bluehost.com

Step 2: Choose your hosting plan

Step 3 – Choose your domain name. I highly recommend that you just use your first and last name if it’s available. If it’s not available then perhaps add your middle initial, but don’t get crazy here. If you are anything like me you will change your idea of what you will talk about on your blog a million times, and using your first and last name allows you to not have to recreate your brand each time you change your mind.

Step 4 – Next is the fun part of choosing a design. Simple is better when you are getting started. But you can make it as fancy or as simple as you want! I used one of these free templates for my entire first year of blogging and it did just fine for me. Once you get settled it’s easy to upgrade to a fancier template for less than you would pay for a nice dinner.

Once you are done setting it up, you will go to the WordPress website, create a password and ID write it down because you will use it later. This is what the dashboard looks like. From here you just click on Blog Post to write your first post. Once you have written your first post you are ready to launch!

It’s hard to really be serious about your social media business without a blog so I encourage you to put this on your priority list if you are ready to take your career to the next level. It’s not as hard as it looks and once your set up you won’t have to do it again.
