Transitioning to a WAHM

Transitioning to a WAHM

I have been praying about transitioning to become a WAHM (Work at home mom) since the very first dreadful time I dropped my first born off in the loving arms of my Mother-in-law. I literally cried the entire way to work… and the pattern didn’t stop when I had my second child…or my third… or my fourth!

But this time ‘yall I am putting my money where my mouth is and I am working very hard to transition to be a WAHM very soon.

Tips to transitioning to being a WAHM

First, let me clarify that I am taking absolutely nothing away from women who stay at home. Taking care of your children and home full time is probably the most noble and thankless job there is!  But for my family’s lifestyle, my income is part of what makes our home what it is. So as I transition to becoming a WAHM, I know that I better figure out a way to “work” from home if this is going to work long term. I always joke when I leave my traditional job that I am heading home to do my second full-time job! Hehe! But I mean it.. Regardless of where you spend 8 working hours (at home or in an office), I see you momma! And I know your struggle.

Tip #1

Save! Save! SAVE! My side hustle is blogging. I have been blogging and monetizing Instagram for almost two years and have worked my butt off to create an income that we can live off of. So for the next six months, I will save my paycheck from my traditional job and begin to live only on my blogging income as a way to both cushion my savings, but also to prove to myself (and my husband) that we can make this work.

Tip #2

Track your spending. Very soon you won’t be able to go to Target and let it rain! LOL The nice thing about working a traditional job is you know exactly how much you will be making each month. But now, as I transition to a WAHM, my income will fluctuate so as part of my preparation to working from home is to really be honest with my spending habits so I know exactly how much I have to bring home. And I also know exactly what things are part of my frivolous spending habits.

Tip #3

Just do it! You guys! I love the scripture when Paul walks on water. I have been meditating on that since August. To me it’s so powerful because you will never know the miracles that lie just outside your comfort zone if you never take that first step. And the most amazing part is that God (if you have prayed about it like I have) will be right by your side the entire journey.  And I already have a date in mind when I will take that first step of faith.

These smiles are the reason why I work so hard to be more present with them EVERY day!

I pray that as you transition to WAHM you will find the discipline, courage, strength and faith to make it a reality. I am so excitedly terrified for the journey that will come. But it is time… it is finally time!!!

All about the Journey

One thing I love about the online space is that you can find someone you can relate to regardless of where you are in your journey. With that in mind, I would love to invite you to check out the work/mom balance journeys of some of my blogger friends:

First up is Courtney! And she is sharing about her first month as a stay at home mom. You can read that post here!

I would also love to introduce you to Hannah who is sharing about finding contentment right where you are even if that isn’t a SAHM! You can read that blog post here.
